Portage Bay Lodge Is Situated Along The Beautiful Montreal River

In Northern Ontario, CA

Welcome to Chitaroni's "Portage Bay Lodge"

This sign welcomes you as you enter the grounds.  An expanse of Camping, RV, Fishing and Hunting opportunity!

We're situated in the James Bay Frontier region of Northern Ontario amongst a beautiful forest of Pine, Spruce, Poplar and Birch on a natural bay of the Montreal River, where you can travel by water for many miles, with picturesque scenery all the way.

Hunt, Fish, and Explore!

The surrounding countryside is dotted with jagged and rolling hills, replete with meadows, marshes, lakes and fascinating rock features springing up from the landscape.  It's these same features that drew the miners here over 100 years ago to mine for silver, the most precious commodity this area had to offer.  Learn how the wealth of Canada hinged on just one mining town just a few miles down the road from the comfort of your base camp at Portage Bay Lodge!  You can spend one day, or several, exploring the mining heritage of Cobalt, the little "Silver City" that almost single-handedly built the wealth of a nation!

Portage Bay and the Montreal River are a fisherman's delight for Pickerel (Walleye), Northern Pike, Small Mouth Bass, Yellow Perch, and Whitefish.

And for the kids, there are a few sunfish or other small aquatic friends just big enough for their hands!  The "young-guns" always seem to be getting a "bite" no matter what they throw in!  After all, the Montreal River is one of Canada's premiere fishing waterways!
